Shortlist Baillie Gifford Prize
Fellow nominees are Rachel Clarke ('Story of a Heart'), Richard Flanagan ('Question 7'), Annie Jacobsen ('Nuclear War'), Viet Thanh Nguyen ('A Man of Two Faces') and Sue Prideaux ('Wild Thing: A Life of Paul Gauguin').
Isabel Hilton, chair of judges, said: “The six shortlisted books showcase a breathtaking range of subjects and styles, expand our understanding and challenge our perspectives. Each one demonstrates exceptional scholarship and compelling narrative and offers profound insight into some of the most pressing issues of our time. It is a shortlist that we celebrate as a testament to the power of non-fiction to enlighten, engage and inspire us."
The Baillie Gifford Prize is often described as the 'Man Booker Prize for non-fiction'. Former laureates and nominees include Antony Beevor, Ian Kershaw, Margaret MacMillan, Orlando Figes, Tony Judt, Bill Bryson, Helen Macdonald, and Philippe Sands. Revolusi is the first Dutch-language title to be appear on the list.
